Jujutsu Kaisen 0 – One Of The Most Successful Anime Films Ever
According to Oricon’s report, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 which is the first film in the famous shonen genre has made over 24.25 billion yen (about $180 million at the current price) all over the world. The eighth-highest-grossing anime film of all time is now Jujutsu Kaisen. Previous to Pokémon: The First Movie, which was released in 1998 at the height of the original Pokémon craze, and Studio Ghibli’s critically acclaimed 1997 masterpiece, Princess Mononoke, the prequel film is now firmly ranked among the top ten highest-grossing anime films of all time, according to Crunchyroll.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has a long list of achievements and being in the top 10 is just the most recent one. On December 24, 2021, the animated movie has its premiere, and it immediately broke the previous record for the second-best opening weekend in Japanese movie history. Evangelion 3.0 + 1.01, which was released in the same year and held the top for the majority of the year, was eventually surpassed by the film to become the top film at the Japanese box office for 2021. The movie was also debuted in North America last March where it could rise to the position of the fourth-most profitable anime film in the country, beating the Dragon Ball Super: Broly in 2018, the highest-grossing movie in that franchise.
A year has passed since the anime series’ debut when the prequel film takes place. As a result, Yuta Okkotsu, a more reserved and quiet young man who is plagued by a Curse created by the ghost of his late childhood friend Rika Orimoto, plays the lead role in the film rather than Yuji Itadori, the series’ customary protagonist. But she doesn’t seem to be the kind girl Yuuta used to know in spirit. Instead, she appears as a terrifying being that aggressively defends him. Yuuta is unable to halt the bloodshed that Rika’s savage retribution would cause since she is unable to control her aggressive actions. As a result, Yuuta desires to be utterly alone so that no one else may get wounded when he is captured by “Jujutsu” sorcerers, the covert defenders of the world who have been trained to battle forces like Rika. But his capturer, the master sorcerer Satoru Gojou, has other ideas: he’ll enroll in Jujutsu High School and learn how to handle Rika so he can aid others. As a first-year student at this institution, Yuuta begins to study Jujutsu and engage in battle against evil creatures. Yuuta finds his place in the world and, for the first time, feels confident in his skills thanks to his new classmates Maki Zenin, a specialist in Jujutsu weaponry, Toge Inumaki, a spellcaster who wields words like weapons, and Panda, a bear that appears to be both walking and talking. Yuuta discovers as his training goes on, nevertheless, that the hazards of the jujutsu world go far beyond those presented by evil spirits.
One of Japan’s most popular new shonen series is now firmly established thanks to Jujutsu Kaisen 0. With a stunning 30 million copies sold in Japan alone, the original manga written and illustrated by Gege Akutami was the best-selling series of 2021. The anime’s second season is presently under production at the MAPPA studio with a 2023 release date. Megumi Ogata, who provided the voice of Yuta in the film, has announced that she will return for the upcoming season of the television program.
